Association of Children's Librarians of Northern California Scholarship
The Association of Children's Librarians of Northern California (ACL) is pleased to announce that there are 3 annual membership scholarships available to persons who are planning to become children's librarians. ACL is a group of public and school librarians that has been meeting monthly since the 1930s to review children's books. The group also presents an annual Insitute on a topic of interest to children's librarians, sponsors the annual Performers' Showcase of would-be library performers, and publishes an annual list of distinguished books and a monthly review journal, BayViews. The scholarships offer an opportunity for those seriously considering a career in children's librarianship to discuss children's books and librarianship with working professionals. Successful candidates will receive one free year's membership and admission to ACL events, including the annual Insitute. Monthly meetings are currently held on the second Friday of the month at the Oakland Public Library, West Auditorium.
Applications for these Dorothy Helfeld Fellowships, given in loving memory of longtime member Dorothy Helfeld, are available at www.bayviews.org. Applications for the 2010/2011 fellowships must be received by June 7, 2010. Candidates who applied previously are eligible to apply again by submitting a new application. For further information, please contact Elizabeth Overmyer at scholarship@bayviews.org.
